Week In review

Here is a reflection of our learning over the past week:

Math:
We inquired into the Math Terms; multiples, factor, prime and composite numbers.
We partook in the below 100s chart activity- which students were totally engaged and challenged with. It created great Math discourse! It helped us deepen our understanding of the differences between prime and composite numbers and how multiples are connected to this concept.

Literacy:
We continued on with our Read Aloud Iqbal; recording new vocab, reflecting on character traits, and practicing our inferring skills. We have been using the skill of visualization as well to help us make inferences about characters, author's intent and the setting.
We also investigated some Newspaper articles around Remembrance  Day. We determined the elements of a newspaper: photos, activities/puzzles articles etc) and determined the criteria of a newspaper article:
  1. A headline- a title that makes people want to read the article
  2. A byline- the writer who wrote the article
  3. The use the 5 W's and H of journalism: Who What When Where Why and How
  4. Illustration to provide more information (maps, graphs, photograph etc)

Students chose 2 articles that spoke to them and wanted to share about and completed an Article Map- a template that elicited the title of the article, the author,  a description of the persons/characters of the article and a summary of the important/interesting facts/message of the article.
See the link below of the Newspaper provided to the students from Veterans Affair Canada.
