Week In review & Upcoming

Hard to believe March Break is a week behind us. I hope everyone had a great break and had fun with family and friends!

Homework
-Students have been given extra time in class to catch up on any time missed on their Biography project due to our internet interruption. The due date for their completion will be the week of April 9th.
- As well starting next week there will be coming home sample Reading/Writing EQAO questions which need not be completed and returned to school by the end of the week (Friday) so as a class we will level our work based on the exemplars from EQAO. This will start the Tuesday after Easter weekend.
-Tuesday, April 10th we will have a celebration of learning that incorporates Order of Operations, multiplication, and division. Practice work will be placed on Hapara.

Math
We have moved forward and are developing strategies for division- strategies beyond the standard algorithm to help us out when
we "forget the steps".
We will be moving towards relationships involving percent, ratio, and unit rate, then onto Geometry (properties of quadrilaterals, classify and construct polygons and angles, coordinate grid, transformational geometry).

Literacy
We continue to look Evaluating Non-fiction texts and are moving towards Analyzing Poetry - Visualizing, Inferring, Analyzing.

Mr. Fresque was also in to help us move forward in our business venture. Students have narrowed their bookmarks down to 4 designs and have divided into groups to work on each. Our next phase is to determine our “bill of materials” and figure out how much it will cost us to mass produce our product. This will help us determine how much we will potentially sell them for etc. This coming week our class will also meet again with Ms. White to keep her updated on our progress.

MATH QUIZ- postponed

Hi Everyone
The Math quiz has been postponed until after March break- no worries not the 1st week back!
The reason for the delay is we have students away for sporting events and we are still navigating the tech side of things for students to access Hapara.
Thanks for your understanding!

Hope everyone has a wonderful March Break!
Mrs Butler:)

Week In Review & Upcoming

Hello Everyone,
Due to students having limited access to technology this past week, they will be provided an extension for their home assignments. The magazine assignment will now be due the 1st week of April and our Math quiz will be moved to this Thursday, March 8th.

This week we continue with Multiplication and moving towards division and in Literacy, we are close to publishing our literary works! Wait till you read them!
We had an amazing time skiing on Friday- big thanks to Madame Seguin for organizing it all for us!

Mr. Fresque will be in this week and students will share the designs they developed for our bookmarks. As a class, we will determine which design we will bring forward to production.

March is National Engineering Month- please take a moment and visit the LINK for some cool activities designed to help students learn more about Engineering and Engineering Technology. We will be exploring some of them at school as well.

For Term 2 the Learning Skills focus is Initiative and Self-regulation. As a class, we will inquire into what that looks like, sounds like and feel like in the classroom and together build success criteria to help us practice and achieve these skills.

Below are a few items to keep you up to date - if ever you have any questions please don't hesitate to let me know!

  • Hot lunch order forms going home Monday- please be aware the order deadline falls over March Break, Wednesday, March 14th.  Please email st_philip_lunches@bell.net if you have any questions.
  • For Library every student is required to have a bag for their books to prevent damage to them. Please send a plastic bag along with your child this week- feel free to label it- I will have spares in class as well :)
  • Please see the note below from our Parent council:                                                                             Talent Show volunteers needed! Looking for parents who would like to help out with the SPS Talent Show to be held the night of the SPS Fun Fair on Friday, June 1st.  Lunchtime (Tues/Wed/Thurs 12-1) practices will start in April in the weeks leading up to the Fun Fair. Our coordinator Pam Budge-Carvish will be running the show but is in need of additional support this year. If sufficient volunteers are not available for lunchtime sessions, we will have to look at changing format/event. Please contact sps.talentshow@gmail.com to volunteer or for more details. This is a much loved St. Philip tradition, please help if you can!
